X4305 EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 9/Hll.1.23. R. {Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ c. to BJ. c. to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re. AMERICAN PROCEDURE - Hot Spot Throttle. With reference to your R1/M27.12.22 and the third paragraph of this memo - I was able to take with me on my visit to America in July last an experimental hot-spot throttle scheme complete, which I left for them to test and which they were anxious to test during the coming cold weather. During my last visit in November, I was able to learn that they did appreciate the advantage of the hot-spot throttle, although they still insist that the vaporiser scheme ( 'Doris Scheme') in their case is necessary. The hot spot throttle scheme was standardised at Derby just prior to my last visit, and the latest complete drawings and instructions were sent to America, and they are now pushing ahead with all possible speed to embody this scheme in their standard production as soon as ever possible, even to the extent of causing a certain amount of scrap. I have not the least doubt but that they will be supplying production cars with the hot throttle scheme fitted as standard as soon, if not sooner than will be done at Derby. As far as Derby is concerned, the hot throttle scheme commences on R. {Sir Henry Royce} series chassis, which are now about to come on test. EP. {G.
