X.543 RE SELF STARTERS X 294 X.3374 X1114 X1058 X.1203 We have had the representatives from the Bijur and Rushmore firms call here to demonstrate their self starters and dynamos, they both use theseparate machines. One or two of the points raised might be of interest to Mr. Royce. The Bijur demonstration car had lamps fitted with a new type of bulb, they only consume half a watt per c.p. compared with 1 watt with the present lighting lamp; they seemed to give an excellent light and are specially good for car lighting, because the filaments are short and bunched close together, so that it is possible to get a better focus. X.1114 The Rushmore spoke of these lamps and stated that if they were as good as they appeared to be they could afford to reduce the size of theirlighting dynamos and battery. Mr. Rushmore advocates the single wiring system for car wiring as used on ships, he stated that the Renault and people were using it/several firms in America, the advantages he claims are saving in weight and less likelihood of shorts. X802 Both the Bijur and the Rushmore use nothing else but "Willard" batteries (same as the Peerless). They both use 5 v.{VIENNA} machines, they claim that the lamps last longer and that they can use a lighter battery with low voltage. They say that the heavy discharge from the battery for starting the engine does not do as much damage to it as burning two head-lights, X1198 because the starting is simply a kick off the surface of the plates | ||
