RE: DELCO LOVEJOY SHOCK ABSORBERS

Instructions below cover the installation and adjustment of Delco Lovejoy Hydraulic Shock Absorbers as described in Parts Letter No. 310-6.

1. Installation

(a) Rear Absorbers - Chassis 1 - on
These should be mounted as per view "A" in the attached sketch.
The rocking shaft center should be located to the rear of the rear spring swivel pin as follows:

10.000" Chassis 1-1700
11.350" Chassis 1701-2500
14.600" Chassis 2501 - on

A dimension of 2.000" from the level frame top will give definite position in the frame channel.

(b) Front Absorbers - Chassis 2401 - ON
For this fitting the shock absorber has been arranged for use with the triangular axle control bracket as shown in view "B".
The arrangement should be carried out as follows:

1. Remove old shock absorber and the triangular control bracket from the chassis. The ball stud should also be removed from the top.

2. Bed new ball stud M-1777 in old ball pads, and leave them in place. See Maintenance Bulletin 310-19.

3. Free axle from springs and add taper packings between axle and springs till pivot lean is 2°. Do not fit a compensating taper packing on top of the spring unless one is already there in which case do not change it.

Taper packings are available as follows, and should be chosen to suit:
A-15285 1/2°
A-15286 1°
A-10296 1-3/4°

4. Attach Delco Shock Absorber to ball end and place body against frame. Scribe location of bolt holes on side channel. This position should measure approximately 1.750 below the level frame top.
