4411 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/KW. 8th October, 1934. F.C. Thompson, Esq., The Morse Chain Co., Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Dear Mr. Thompson, You will remember that when I was in Detroit in January of this year I discussed chain drive with you and you said that should we ever be contemplating running a Morse chain on one of our cars you would be happy to look over the scheme for us and give us the benefit of your experience. I enclose herewith Scheme LeC.4132, which shows a projected layout. In view of your remarks re the necessity for an adequate crankshaft damper we can assure you that the chain will not be subjected to torsional vibrations. If this layout meets with your approval I am particularly anxious to obtain two or three sets of parts from Detroit and run them on a rig here, at the same time running some English produced pieces. As the matter is somewhat urgent, I shall be very much obliged if you could write me as soon as possible. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
