To CJ. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8060 E1/M31.3.26. RE½ LIGHTER PHANTOM ENGINE. X. 8840 X. 8060 X. 8050 Referring to your memo. CJ11/E26.3.26 we have a scheme nearly completed for the cylinders and valve gear of the lighter Phantom engine with non-detonating head. This scheme will be sent to R.{Sir Henry Royce} before Easter. At the same time we believe that BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has in Derby schemes completed, instructed, or in hand, for saving weight on the engine, to a list of suggestions set out in memo. E1/M11.2.25. Also we have a number of further suggestions we are sending to R.{Sir Henry Royce} There remains the question of a specialist helping the designers, both with lightening the engine and the front of the chassis generally. BY's interpretation of this as set out in his memo. BY12/H29.3.26. is the same as occurred to us. At the same time we should welcome any further suggestions for alterations in design to save weight, which would not adversely affect reliability and performance. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
