FAILURE OF STEERING GEAR ALUMINIUM BOXES. ------------------- I again wish to bring forward the fact that we have had a further steering gear box break on a car on test. We quite appreciate that in all these cases the steering gear has had some strain caused by an accident or bump, but at the same time I do not feel happy that the steering gear should be in a condition so that this box is the weakness of the job, since the box may be cracked without the driver being concious of the fact, and may cause some serious ultimate damage.
