PHANTOM II. IGNITION WIRE DAMAGED BY EXHAUST.

We find that the centre part of the ignition tube and wires under the exhaust pipe are damaged.

It has been considered possible that this was due to dynamometer running only, but we now find this fault is a general one when cars have been running in service.

The practice at Paris appears to be to fix an asbestos lined shield on to the exhaust pipe which protects this ignition tube.

I also noticed this trouble existed on 23-EX, the Experimental Car which I ran in France.

I understand from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} some recommendation has been made for a guard to be fixed to overcome this trouble. Could E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} please arrange for this to be instructed and suggest that some action should be taken for an improvement to be applied retrospectively.

I also suggest, as soon as material is available a Depot Sheet should be issued.

cylinders do not interfere with the remedy of the loom.
We quite agree that with long gether wires the ebonite covering ignition tube trouble exists, with the tube becoming burnt. This is not so with the aluminium tube fitted to 23 EX which is in no way damaged and the sharp deterioration in the top wire to 3 & 4
