DETAILS OF TESTS CARRIED OUT TO DATE ON
FRONT WHEEL BRAKE JAGGER ON L.W.111.

The following experiments have proved unsuccessful in eliminating or in any way altering the jaggers :-

'A' - EXPERIMENTS OTHER THAN INSIDE BRAKE DRUM.

(1) Different strength road springs.
(2) Rebound leaves fitted to road springs.
(3) Different methods of spring anchorage.
(a) Rear shackle and front anchorage to frame.
(b) Front shackle and rear anchorage to frame.
(c) Front and rear shackle and radius rods.
(d) Front and rear shackle no radius rods.
(4) Road springs clamped solid to chassis frame. It was found that it was not possible to clamp the springs sufficiently strong enough to the frame to withstand the movement of the springs set up by jaggers.
(5) Wooden battens substituted for road springs, the top spring leaf only being used as a means of anchoring the battens.
(6) Ferodo spring leaf inserts fitted to front springs.
(7) Very strong clamps fitted to springs to clamp all leaves tightly together.
(8) Varying tyre pressures.
(9) Balloon tyres fitted.
(10) Steel artillery wheels fitted.
(11) Increased load on shock absorbers.
(12) Longer anchorage pins on axle for shock absorbers, to increase any possible damping affect of shock absorbers.
(13) Various methods of operating cam actuating shafts.
(14) Varying amounts of slack in brake operating mechanism.
