-2- (d) Self sealing bearings at the wheel end of the shaft and drain holes in the axle casing end plates. (e) Axle tubes in .3% to .4% carbon steel, machined internally to a radial thickness of .125 ins. (f) Welded on spring seats. (g) Strengthened centre casing to GCD.1483. (h) Parallel roller bearing to R.H. Side of differential cage see PL.123. 9.B.V. (a) This car is to be fitted with the semi floating axle to SCD.1326 which was detailed and issued by By/Alwood in By/Ald.{F. Allwood - Experimental Design}1/AW.9.5.39. but with the following specification :- (b) Half shaft - 1.531 in.dia. (c) Track 58.000 ins. (d) Self sealing bearings at the wheel end of the shaft and drain holes in the axle casing end plates. (e) Axle tubes in .3% to .4% carbon steel tube, machined internally to .125 in. radial thickness. (f) Welded on spring seats. (g) Casing as detailed and made to EXS.1614 which is not of the strengthened type (h) Parallel roller bearing to the R.H. side of the differential cage see PL.123 using the temporary scheme and leaving the Timken bearing on L.H. side as bearing 35,000. The procedure we would like you to adopt is to draw up an L.O.P. for the semi floating axle .650 inches Hypoid and 58.000 track as required for B.V. which should include the following modifications to be used as our basic L.O.P. (1) Strengthened centre casing to GCD.1483. (2) Self sealing bearings at wheels and drain holes in axle casing end plates - This has been instructed. (3) Differential cage bearings to the final scheme on PL.123. (4) Welded on spring seats to PL.128. We believe that there exists an L.O.P. for a semi floating axle of .650 inches Hypoid which was done for B.V. Corniche and this can be used to build upon. Having got this basic L.O.P. all other derivatives of this axle which it is proposed to build and which are specified in this memo. can have Exptl. L.O.P's of the type already agreed upon. | ||
