Rear Axles - Senior Range.

From Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}2/BA.2.2.40. you will see that it is proposed to Build 5 new axles for cars of the Senior Range. Four of these are of the semi floating type to PD.312 and its subsequent modifications and one is to be a semi floating axle to SCD.1326 having an overhung pinion.

Below we give the specification of each axle.

Axle for 4.B.50.

(a) Ratio 11/41 - gears S/ZNCR.
(b) Half shaft - 45 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore}
(c) Track 59.500/ins.
(d) Self sealing bearings at wheel end of shaft and drain holes in axle casing end plates.
(e) Axle tubes in .3% to .4% carbon steel machined internally to a radial thickness of .125 inches.
(f) Welded on spring seats.
(g) Strengthened centre casing to GCD.1483.
(h) Parallel roller bearing to R.H. side of differential cage - PL.123.

Axle for 31.G.7.

(a) Ratio 11/41 - gears in S/ZNCR.
(b) Half shafts - 45 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore}
(c) Track 59.500.
(d) Self sealing bearings at wheel end of shaft and drain holes in axle casing end plates.
(e) Axle tubes in .3% to .4% carbon steel with normal thickness of tubes.
(f) Welded on spring seats.
(g) Strengthened centre casing to GCD.1483.
(h) Parallel roller bearing to R.H. side of Differential cage see PL.123.

axle for 2.R.2.

(a) Ratio 10/41 -gears in S/ZNC.
(b) Half shafts - 1.531 ins. dia.
(c) Track 58.000 ins.
