MANCHESTER. 3,

Dear Sir,

Mr. Hives has handed me your letter of the 28th June.

We note what you claim for your Silencer. We would point out, however, that we have been in touch with the foremost silencing experts in France, America and this Country, and we have yet to encounter any system which approaches the ideals you mention, i.e., silencing the exhaust without back pressure.

Quite frankly, whilst we should be exceedingly interested to know the principles on which your system works, and we may possibly be able to give you a line as to how it will compare with other arrangements we have already tried, we think it unlikely that it would be of any use to us without a great deal of work on your part.

There are at present big organisations in this Country who earn their living by selling exhaust systems, and, generally speaking, we find it profitable to work with them, because they can not only make recommendations but carry out experimental work also.

Yours faithfully,

For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
