No doubt Mr. Fisher has communicated with you with regard to the several carburettors we inspected in which the pumps had failed.

There are several points we should like to raise as this is becoming a serious trouble and we have some misgivings about the Phantom III's already in customers' hands, since the failure of the pump in question after 150 miles' running.

(1)    Would it be any advantage to further increase the diameter of the brass backing washers, or are there any disadvantages to it ?

(2)    We understand there is a small release valve housed in the pump. If this be set too strong is there any possibility of excess petrol pressure under the washer, causing it to collapse ?

In the meantime we should be pleased if you could produce two metal pump pistons as per the 25/30, which we can try experimentally on the Phantom III.

We hope that we have defined the pump failure clearly, although if you are closely in touch with Mr. Fisher he will undoubtedly be able to explain all details more fully.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
