FGP/MF. 12.11.40. copy. NOTES ON MEETING HELD IN MR. PARNELL'S OFFICE ON TUESDAY, 12TH NOVEMBER 1940. WITH REGARD TO ROLLS-ROYCE 'MYTH' CAR. Present: Mr. Bastow (Rolls-Royce). Mr. Rigby " Mr. Parnell (Lockheed) Mr. Chouings " The question of shoe factors was discussed, and methods of calculating were explained. Pedal travels and ratios were also discussed and it was agreed, on the first experimental car, to adopt a pedal ratio of 5.5 : 1. with a pedal travel of 5" - the stops on the tandem to be adjusted. These figures will also apply to the 'Rippletto' car, and Lockheed Co. hope to make some tests on the road with similar ratios. Rear Brake Assemblies. The brake layouts were discussed and it was agreed that the Brake Carrier Plate on the Rear Axle was sufficiently strong, but some doubt was expressed by Mr. Chouings as to whether the Front Axle Plate was stiff enough. It was agreed that the Lockheed Co., would make up samples, both front and rear brakes, for test and that Messrs. Rolls- Royce would supply suitable brake drums. With regard to Dust Covers on the Rear Brakes, Rolls-Royce agreed to reconsider this in order to avoid an additional thickness between the transverse wheel cylinder and the bisector. With regard to the off-stop for the handbrake rod, it was agreed that the jaw could be lengthened to butt on the back plate, as suggested by Rolls-Royce. | ||
