PETO & RADFORD BATTERY FOR 40/50
PETO & RADFORD BATTERY FOR GOSHAWK.

We have visited the Peto & Radford Battery Works at Dagenham Dock primarily for the purpose of viewing the plate grids of the three Goshawk batteries which Messrs. P & R are making up for us.

These grids appear to be satisfactory in every way, except that the small feet which rest on the cross supports of the cell box did not seem to be quite deep enough and we suggested that a slight addition should be made - it was agreed that a small addition could be got in.

We were shown the various processes in the man-ufacture of chassis batteries, and it was carefully pointed out to us that in each stage of the process the greatest possible care is taken, and we were asked to compare their methods with those of other battery manufacturers that we have seen. Amongst other things, lead of the very greatest possible purity is used and the plates, after being pasted, are allowed to dry naturally in an ordinary atmosphere for some weeks before the forming process is developed. This is considered to be much superior than the methods of other battery makers, in which the drying is forced.

We were shown their moulding plant for the production of the Dagenite boxes of the uncrackable material previously referred to, this being a special concession, as
