To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X3596 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/LG12.12.22. OIL LEVEL INDICATOR AND MAGNETO DRIVE. X3596 X4327 Attached is a blue print showing an oil level indicator which we have fitted to one of the experimental cars. We should like you to bring this to R's notice. We have already had customers criticise the fact that the 20 HP. car has an oil level indicator and they ask why there is no such fitting on the 40/50. We are also sending you herewith a suggested scheme of the magneto drive on Goshawk. A number of tests we have taken up-to-date show that if we add damping to one end of the coupling tube, it will overcome the rattles. We are finding this is also successful on the 40/50 Magneto Drive and when this is done the magneto brake can be left off. So far, we have only been able to apply the friction crudely to existing drives. We suggest the attached scheme may be considered sufficiently satisfactory to test out.
