X/7520 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M17.11.30. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} P. 2. SLINGS UNDER REAR AXLE. X.7520. X.7350. Herwith we send N. scheme. 3173. shewing the slings under the rear axle as proposed by R.{Sir Henry Royce} to be used in conjunction with the shock dampers with 10" levers shewn on N. scheme 3172. It is rather difficult to get a very precise idea of the loads that this gear will have to stand, but it seems it may be very considerable under some conditions. We suggest that it should be fitted up as shewn and an attempt made to prove whether it can be made to fail under any circumstances that are likely to arise. We have taken a cable and made the remainder of the parts equal to it. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
