COPY. ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. SRN-11/H25124. Rolls-Royce Ltd., London. Dec. 4th.1925. Gentlemen, re. 20-HP. 44-G-3. Ryan. Mileage 3,500. The owner of the above car complained that the motor was overoiling and that it was impossible to keep the spark plugs clean in any of the cylinders for more than thirty or forty miles. We dismantled the cylinders and found that the pistons were in a very bad condition, with practically no bedding. The piston in No.4 cylinder we were obliged to change, fitting a new piston with rings, as the old one could not be refitted. We refitted all the other pistons and fitted new scraper rings. Even with the above work, which entailed a cost of 201.08 dollars, the motor is still unsatisfactory and we think it will be necessary to rebore the cylinders and fit new pistons before the motor will be in a satisfactory condition. In view of the low mileage on this car and the fact that the owner is in no way responsible for this condition, we should like your approval of our proposed invoice for 201.08 dollars, covering the work done. As the further work to which we have referred will undoubtedly have to be done in the near future, we shall appreciate your advice, relative to our procedure in the matter. Thanking you for your early advice in both of these matters, we are, Yours very truly, ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA INC. (Sgd). J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Southern. Maintenance Manager. | ||
