BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} XD7300 DAL/M15.2.29. 'SS{S. Smith}' CLUTCH. X.7300 X.548 X.547 We received your telegram yesterday re. a method of holding the inner or outer race while we slid the opposite one under the balls. We send herewith N.sch. 2831 shewing this with some other suggestions. We suggest holding the inner race and sliding on the outer one. We also suggest that it is worth trying the proposal to slide on the inner bore by increasing its length. We notice on referring to Hoffman's latest list that they make a bearing, the proportions of which are rather different to those originally used in the clutch, and we believe came from Skefco. We have therefore suggested in this last bearing a modification of the proportions, and we also suggest that the old scheme should be tried with a bearing of these new proportions.
