Std. Cooling System General.

IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} Complete system to be tested out at either Brooklands or Montlhery. Figures to be checked in hot weather on Continental motor roads and on mountain passes. At least three days traffic tests in hot weather, starting and idling tests.

Std. Record to be kept of all coolant added to experimental cars.

At least one car to be in service for at least six months without the cooling system being disturbed, and without any serious signs of corrosion. Cooling system parts as far as possible should not be changed from car to car.

Time, mileage, general and rough running are all necessary for cooling system standardisation.

Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} After "running in" and tuning up" first test should be on dynamometer as follows.

1 hour on 3rd. Gear at 2000 r.p.m. Full load.
1 " " 2nd. " " " "
1 " " 1st. " " " Same load as 2nd. gear.
4 hours" Top Gear " 1000 " Full load.
4 " " " " 2000 " " "
2 " " " " 2500 " " "
1 hour " " " 3000 " " "
1/2 hour" " " 3500 " " "
1/4 " " " " 4000 " " "

After dynamometer test various units should be stripped for examination, and if satisfactory re-erected for road tests. This does not apply to engine bearings which should be replaced.

Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} At the completion of the endurance and Continental tests the chassis should do 5,000 miles in England under normal touring conditions, but including 2,000 miles of London traffic.

NRC.{N. R. Chandler} After 15,000 miles test when a car has been stripped for inspection, on being re-assembled for a further 15,000 miles, as many of the original parts as possible should be used.

Before and after the French test, the car should have a day's running in London or Paris traffic. The latter to show up any deterioration in general handling and refinement. It should also be driven by other than Works' testers, to get different opinions on the car, and to show up its behaviour when handled by a number of different drivers.
