C O P Y. To BJ. from H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Copy to CWB. H2/TB/2.11.25. (Dictated 31.10.25). Re Sparking Plugs on 'New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I' and Overoiling. I learn that we have issued a large number of New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I chassis with the Lodge sparking plug which is incapable of being taken to pieces and cleaned. It therefore happens that any owner or driver who gets a pair of oiled-up plugs in one cylinder has no remedy but to use the two spare plugs which we give in our kit of spares. If he gets a repetition of the trouble, he has to buy plugs. There is a Lodge plug which is demountable and can be taken to pieces with ease, properly cleaned up and used again, and W. has had 500 of such plugs which are being used now together with the un-demountable type, and they have ordered a further supply of these. Discussing with EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} yesterday the over-oiling matter, I suggested that we should without delay replace all the un-demountable type, and they have ever with the demountable and cleanable type, in all those chassis which are still at the coachbuilders and not yet delivered to customers. If it is not desired to replace them all, then we should, and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} agrees, replace those of all chassis which have reached the coachbuilders without passing the tests for over-oiling which have been adopted since September 19th.
