C O P Y. Bt{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}8/EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/2.11.25. Re. Chassis No. 51-HC - Lady Regnart. We have received from this owner's secretary a letter which contains the following remark:- "The new car had not been used much, but the chauffeur said that, while away, he had to spend £3 on new plugs, otherwise he would not have used the car. He said the new plugs were a better pattern and could be unscrewed and cleaned free from oil, whereas the plugs supplied with the car were of an out-of-date pattern and could not be cleaned. What is meant of course is that the type of Lodge plug we supply as standard cannot be cleaned effectively - for an over-oiling engine, therefore, it is necessary to keep buying new plugs to keep the engine going. The new ones purchased by Lady Regnart's driver will be of the type illustrated on the attached. Our standard plug has certain advantages no doubt when used in an engine which does not over-oil, such as less likelihood of gas leakage and so on, but it would appear these are all far outweighed by impossibility of cleaning. I had to buy new plugs of the detachable porcelain type on my Scotch tour in order to keep going. Bt.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} | ||
