Dear Sir, RE ELECTRICAL STARTER FOR ENGINES It is understood that the electrical starter is to be applied to the F.3 Flying Boats, and to the Handley-Page twin-engine bombers, and possibly other similar machines. We have found it very difficult to arrange a simple drive that will meet all the requirements of clearing the pipes on the engine, not cutting the wood-bearers, providing a hand starter in addition to the electrical starter, and after very many attempts, we have pleasure in stating that owing to the diminished size of the small Lucas motor, we are able to very simply attach this motor to the present hand starter, if both the motor and the starter are constructed as shewn in the accompanying drawing. It will be seen that we recommend the small epicyclic reduction on the motor, a special magneto bracket fitted with the cantilever tube to carry the motor, and a modified worm on the hand starter with internal serrations. This fitting, in conjunction with the switch already in the hands of our experimental department should with very little Copied. | ||
