PHANTOM INDUCTION PIPE X.8070.
EXHAUST JACKETED FEED PIPE.X.8230

We should be glad to have your opinion of Sch.894., shewing some alterations to the above to overcome trouble experienced in service.

The present feed pipe has a sliding joint on the bottom end which apparently operates only in one direction, the pipe slowly creeping out until the bend at the top becomes almost closed. We feel that if the pipe could be definitely fixed at the bottom end and made sufficiently flexible the trouble could be overcome.

We therefore shew the following alterations on Sch.894 :-

(1) Pipe dia. reduced from .75 to .625 and pipe welded on nipple to fit the existing unions.
(2) Pipe made to a shape to provide more flexibility.
(3) Induction pipe casting tapped out .812 dia. thread to suit screwed connection brazed to pipe having square shoulder, and with metal packing washer to position pipe.

It is expected that the reduction in the pipe diameter and its increased length will not appreciably reduce the jacket heating effects, but we can always vary these latter by making some alterations to the exhaust butterfly valve.
