Contd. -4- Hsl/LG24.2.21. exported to America are being run in England in much greater numbers and so far we have not received the same complaints from customers as are being received in America. We do not wish/to be assumed that if we fit correct throttles all our troubles are over; we have still to apply more heat in order to use the lower grade petrol. If we take a standard 40/50 engine which has a correct throttle and standard distribution and run it with a low grade petrol, it is bad for running unless the engine is kept very hot and if run at low speeds full throttle; it is liable to misfire picking up and soot the plugs up. The addition of a hot-spot or heat does improve this condition. With the standard engine, if we remove the hot air pipe and the exhaust boxes, the distribution of the engine is worse owing to the less heat getting to the induction system. We have been making comparative tests with hot-spots on the tee joint, with exhaust pipe inserted through the induction pipe and extra hot air. We have an induction pipe with glass tubes inserted in order to help us to decide which is the most effective. We shall be sending a separate report on this. | ||
