- 3 - (8). The plates are not rolled to size, they are all finally ground to a close dimension after rolling to clear the plates of surface defects and decarburised areas. (9). If I call for 1400 lb. springs and merely specify ± 50 we shall get springs generally in one delivery to weight or above, and in another to weight or below, and I should find myself in the position of requiring a 1300 lb. spring and only having 1400 or 1450 to meet the demand. Finally, if I paid £3,000 for a complete car I should expect to have my springing requirements carefully considered, and specified as nearly accurate as possible and not to get a generally averaged result to save the spring man having to think occasionally. We seem more and more to expect a Rolls-Royce price from the customer in exchange for a Ford specification and finish, apparently imagining our reputation will carry us through. BY.{R.W.
