Protecting the Phantom II motor from the effects of water, with a comparison to the 20 HP model.

-2- on occasion be actually submerged, at least the undershield might be incapable of protecting it. It is pointed out that there would be a heavy stream of water directed towards the motor from the near side wheel when turning left if the road was wet. Water may also find ingress when cleaning the car with a hose". Similar cases of failure have not occurred on the 20 HP. although the motor is quite near the ground, but the various details of this other motor are such that if water did get in it would not be so badly affected, e.g. the brush holders are nickel plated brass pressings in place of aluminium. It would appear that, taking into account the possible conditions of running of R.R. cars in various parts of the world, some modification is desirable to protect the Phantom II motor from the effects of water.
