To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/ALL X.7791 EFC2/T21.5.28. EW6 WATFORD MAGNETOS WITH CONTINUOUS CAM RINGS. We have received Mr. Maddock's report of the satisfactory operation (e.g. starting the engine from cold) and quietness of the two magnetos Nos.100096/7, which are two of four which we recently received from Messrs. North, and we attach to your copy of this note a copy of each of these reports. Of the other two machines, one of these, No.100093 we have on an experimental car, and on the other one No.100082 we will arrange to do some noise and performance tests on an experimental car. There is also a fifth magneto which is one with continuous cam ring which we first received, which is also on an experimental car. We have no report of any unsatisfactory operation of any of these five machines. We should like to have By's opinion as to how far it is necessary to go with these machines before this modification can be considered suitable for production. He might perhaps suggest that a production order be placed for a limited number, say half a dozen, of machines so fitted, all of which could be passed out in the usual way and if they pass Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}'s Dept. satisfactorily, may be considered of a s type suitable for production. In the meanwhile the two machines Nos.100096/7 should be returned to us. We may, if desired, put these on experimental cars. EFC. | ||
