Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited, Nightingale Road, DERBY. For the attention of Mr. Salt. Dear Sirs, Following your letter of the 2nd August, reference as above, we would inform you that we have now completed a series of check tests on the remelting of A.C.9. bearing alloy. We agree with your findings, namely that there is a magnesium loss on remelting of approximately 0.1%. We therefore, propose working to 1.1% Magnesium content on future melts made up at H.D.A. and will carefully check the Magnesium content after remelting at Messrs. Wellworthys'. Should low hardness values continue to be obtained after ageing at 180 C. for 12 hrs. we will arrange for an addition of Magnesium to be made upon remelting. We will advise you further in due course. Yours faithfully, For and on behalf of HIGH DUTY ALLOYS LTD., G.W. Richards. Metallurgical Department. [STAMPED: RECEIVED AUG 31 1938] | ||
