CONDENSERS. 40/50 & 20HP CHASSIS. V26)2 x4423 [crossed out] x4430

I wish to confirm that the position agreed to by the above people in discussing the Condenser question was as follows;-

(1) Since we had already changed on the 40/50 chassis from the Mica Condenser to the paper Condenser, no special object would be gained by trying special paper Condensers.

(2) In regard to the 40/50 chassis in service, BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} was to instruct half a dozen experimental Condensers having a capacity of .325 micro farads instead of a maximum as at present of .250.
The half dozen Condensers in question to be handed to EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} who would test same and then arrange to distribute them to Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} , & Hm {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} , as considered desirable.

(3) In regard to the 20HP chassis, two faults in the Condenser were discussed;-

a {Mr Adams} /- A tendency for the Condenser to increase in capacity with temperature.

b/- Failures from faulty connection between the Condenser and the rest of the system.

In regard to a {Mr Adams} /- we propose giving a temperature capacity so that every Condenser will be checked for this capacity at 60°C, a figure which Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , has found from experiments to be satisfactory.
Condensers will then be checked at ordinary atmospheric temperatures and at 60°C, so that we will have a limit on the capacity of the Condensers under both conditions.

In regard to b/- we have put the question of a paper connection before W.W. but in the meantime we have instructed an improved scheme for getting a more definite contact on the present design, and we are insisting upon having the cases packed very tight and we are certain that thereby we shall get the very best out of the present scheme. In connection with this last point I propose to arrange with SFT. {Mr Swift} to have a number of Condensers produced to our latest

contd.
