Coverley - Production Engineer}/SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}2/MC.25.1.38. REAR AXLE - PHANTOM III. [Handwritten initials 'HH' over title] The side plate for the axle centre casing on Wraith is of a much cheaper and simpler design than that used on Phantom III, the former having the drain plug boss and spigot ring forged integral whilst the latter is of fabricated construction. It would appear that Wraith side plate GW.1765 is adaptable to Phantom III., hence it could be standardised without additional tool cost and would provide a reduction in factory cost of 12/6d. per chassis. All side plates of existing design are now delivered for 'D' series Phantom III., and we should, therefore, like to introduce the Wraith side plate, GW.1765, on the first chassis in 'E' series.
