To EH. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. ORIGINAL Despatched 14/8/18 3rd August, 1918. R10/G3818. 3 X.2087. RE WATER PUMP GLAND SEIZING. Regarding the seizing of the pump gland, you mention that this is made of mild steel. We certainly think that no mild steel ought to run as a bearing, or close enough to form a bearing with other steel shafts. The part mentioned ought to be either white-metalled, or brass bushed, so that if it gets in contact it will have a certain amount of self-lubricating properties.
