RE RIG FOR TESTING PISTONS. Many months ago I suggested a rig (Lec.731) for testing pistons; it had for its object to find the mechanical strength of the various parts, rather than the question of temperature. You will remember it was a hydraulic device in which we could put a pressure on either side of the piston. My impression is that such a rig could be arranged to test the value of a crankshaft also, and I send a sketch of such a device which does not appear to be prohibitively expensive, and I should be glad if Mr. Day and Mr. Hives could arrange some inexpensive design that would serve the purpose. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Sketch attached to Mr. Hives' copy of memo. | ||
