To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} x524 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std. 8/JH. 24.9.36. 25/30 HP Fan. In the last reports on 22-G-V in England and in France, G.W.H. states that the outer rivet on one of the fan blades twice worked loose. A similar instance has also occurred in the quarterly complaints list. We think that this should be rectified and suggest that it is desirable to substitute the Bentley size fan blade rivet for the present 25/30 one, i.e. use .1875 dia. rivet instead of .125" rivet and ream the rivet hole to suit the rivet instead of giving .012 clearance in the hole. In view of the fact that this larger rivet is satisfactory on standard Bentley production, we do not think a 10,000 miles test on such a fan is necessary before standardising it.
