- 8 - HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/VS.{J. Vickers}6.9.37. Rear Road Springs (Continued). Lubrication of the revised Rear Dumb Irons and Shackles to LeC.5353 is inadequate, despite the fact that an S.5 meter valve is specified. This is possibly accounted for by the bad oil leaks which occurred around the Front Yoke and Pivot Bearings. Cross Steering Tube. Complete to LOP.1565, incorporating modified and lightened Main Lever Forgings to N.S.5105/6 and additional Crossmember behind Radiator to N.S.5113. This section is satisfactory, with the exception of a slight foul which occurs in the neck of the Ball Pins and Spherical Contact Piece on full rebound; additional clearance is therefore required at this point. The aluminium packing piece under the lockplate should be dispensed with, since it requires machining all over and serves no useful purpose. This point is illustrated in Ex.I.182 attached. Steering Column. Complete to LOP.FW.927, incorporating the following :- Ball Race Retaining Clip to N.S.4866. Modification to Steering Box in accordance with N.S.5041. Marles type Steering to N.S.4861/79. Controls to LeC.5188/9. This unit was not stripped for inspection; the road report, however, is satisfactory. Gearbox and Actuating Gear. Assembled to LOP.GW.1326. This section is in a very poor condition. The cast-iron Synchromesh Cones GW.1306 on 2nd, 3rd and top gears have worn very continued. | ||
