To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from EFC. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X.4617P. - PETO & RADFORD BATTERIES. 40/50. Answering your Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}6/NJ6.4.25 we confirm that it is our intention that the batteries must be sealed all over the top of the cells to prevent the acid running down into the crate or tray. We have written a new par.12, entitled "Sealing Compound" for Specification No. 301. Please find attached new pages 4 incorporating this, which please replace in your copies of the Specification EFC1/T8.3.24 and in Messrs. Peto & Radford's copy, unless in the meantime, as I see by your letter of 1.4.25, you arrange with them for some other wording. What is strange to me is the fact that the sample up-to-date P & R 40/50 battery we have for test (obtained by you to our request EFC6/T11.6.24) and all previous P & R batteries we have had, have all been completely sealed over their tops. Though we admit the wording of the Specification to be questionable, we have not recently altered it, therefore it seems strange to us that Messrs. P & R should depart from their previous practice without specific instruction. As requested, we return the correspondence herewith. Incidentally we do not appear to have received copies of the four letters mentioned in par.1 of Messrs. P & R 's letter of the 2nd inst. EFC. Correspondence herewith. | ||
