Form 2010 10m 7-34 THE CLEVELAND GRAPHITE BRONZE CO. To: B. F.{Mr Friese} Hopkins From: J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} V.{VIENNA} O.{Mr Oldham} Palm DATE: Feb. 15, 1938 SUBJECT: BRAKE SERVO LINING FOR ROLLS ROYCE LTD. Handwritten: Martindale Please supply the necessary information. Do not see why we should have more discs as we can vary the Cam angle, also the stuff works on 25/30 clutches in place of Ferodo. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1191? Typed: Referring to Mr. Robotham's letter of February 1st with attached information regarding pressures and friction required for this Servo lining, this type of friction lining, we believe, calls for a sandwich type with powdered metal on each side of a steel disc. As the coefficient of friction for this material is about half of what is specified in their memorandum, it would be necessary for us to increase the number of discs in order to compensate for the lower friction. In order to be able to suggest a change in the thickness and number of these discs, we should have a drawing showing the entire assembly as well as the thickness of the mating steel members. This additional information will enable us to make definite design of sandwich discs with powdered metal facings suitable for this application. I am attaching Mr. Robotham's letter of February 1st and keeping the rest of the correspondence on this matter in our file. JVOP:BC John V.{VIENNA} O.{Mr Oldham} Palm. | ||
