Bailey - Chief Engineer} Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 9/NJ7.12.23. 40/50 H.P. Chassis. Order 23394 - Laminated Road Springs. I return herewith back copy of this order, which I took with me to Thos. Firth & Sons Ltd. yesterday. I have noted thereon in pencil the promises of delivery which Firths gave to me. Please note that all the springs of this order are being made "high nip", which is the term used by Firths to describe the greater space which exists between the leaves of Woodheads springs as compared with theirs (Firths) before being nipped up by the centre bolt. In this connection, Firths reminded me that they had supplied to us a pair of springs or a set of springs (I do not quite know which) with "high nip" for experimental purposes and for comparison with Woodheads springs, but we had not yet furnished a report thereon and they (Firths) are very anxious to have said report.
