X4617S E.T.L. J.D.66. 27-3-30 X4617S Failure of P&R cell in SV Battery No 2 cell has failed in this battery. It has never been on the road & has spent the whole of its life (4 yrs) on our bench life test. Failure was due to the growing of the positive plates & one making contact on the negative strap. The negative plates were in good condition but for the fact that they were sulphated. The positive plates had lost very little active material, but were very weak mechanically. The peripheries were fractured in places. The amount of sediment was very small. The wood & ebonite separators were in an excellent condition & equal to new. This cell would have given a much longer life if the above short had not occurred. g.j. | ||
