1373 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} Notes on Conference. Gearboxes. We require new gearboxes for the Bentley V.{VIENNA} cars being run by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Lp.{Mr Lappin} Barclay, Barnato, Breeden and Devereux, leaving no spares for experimental cars particularly 8 cyl. 30-G-Vll and 4-B-50. At least six more boxes are required, as we still have to service 8-B-V, 9-B-V, 10-B-V, 12-B-V, 1-B-50, 2-B-50, 3-B-50, 1-R-1 and 1-RT-1. Front Suspension. New dampers with two valves of larger dimensions and no fine clearance, are now running. This modification together with rubber glands appears to be satisfactory at the moment. Brakes. We have got over our troubles due to oil and water leaks, but are still having trouble with the lining. There is no consistency in "ironing in" same. New lining from Ferodo's to be tried and further work on "sponge". Clutch. Elongated trunnion race appears to have cured troubles. Still experimenting with Clutch housing to prevent distortion and consequent raising of pedal to floorboard at high r.p.m. One experimental housing now ready to be fitted. Prop: Shaft. 80% cured with Jubilee clips but we do not yet know why a state of "out of balance" develops. -continued- | ||
