X7080. To SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to WGR. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/WJ.17.12.29. X7770. X7230 X7080. X4674. Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}21/Z16.12.29. We have already sent round a standardisation sheet for a preliminary scheme of exhaust heating for the carburetter which can be applied to existing cars. We have received no completed designs from W.W. so have no alternative but to standardise the parts as made by the Expl. Dept. The scheme was shown to R.{Sir Henry Royce} on 18-EX and he agreed with the scheme. We told him that we should have to fit that scheme on to cars which were being held up for despatch to U.S.A. Amongst the points discussed was the question of modification to the frame on Phantom ll in order that we do not rely on the engine mounting for adding to the frame stiffness. The result of the discussion was that R.{Sir Henry Royce} instructed us to carry out a number of experiments which will take at least six or eight weeks to complete. The new carburetter for Phantom ll was also discussed. The designs for this are nearly complete. We raised the point that we may ask for twin carburetters on the new design because this scheme gives us a considerable increase in power at the lower and intermediate speeds. We hope to demonstrate this shortly by using twin Solex carburetter fitted to Phantom ll. The 20 HP. was discussed. W.W. has practically | ||
