CJ. for R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. and BJ. c. to K.{Mr Kilner} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} ORIGINAL Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG17.5.22. X. 4383 X 4333 GOSHAWK DYNAMO X. We are sending to you today a broken Commutator off 7-Goshawk-II car. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} took this car to France last week. The Commutator burst on the way to Dover. This makes, in all, three Commutators which have failed. This last commutator is one made to the original design and has considerably more bakelite round it. It will be seen, however, by the appearance of the commutator that the segments have been loose for some time. This actual generator which has recently failed, was run for a considerable time by RFC. on the bench, and gave no trouble. We are also sending you a section of the latest commutator which has been made with another type of moulding material. As soon as the Works start, some of these commutators will be tested on generators. In order to keep the car running in France, we have had to send a C.A.V. Generator.
