W/S. C. X4013. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.1/WA.{Mr Wallis}22.6.32. FAIRHURST 16-MS. X457- With reference to your C.7/C20.6.32, referring to Fairhursts car 16-MS, it is most unfortunate that Paris are unable to deal with this complaint, as we have discussed with them the various points including the fan hitting the bonnet side stiffener on this particular car. Paris were going to increase the radiator movement on 16-MS at the earliest suitable opportunity. We gather that Fairhurst wanted to use his car and we considered ourselves lucky for being able to test it at all. As at that time there had been no actual complaint of radiator movement from Fairhurst or his chauffeur it seemed foolish to admit to Fairhurst that the fault was present. When Fairhurst's chauffeur drove us in 16-MS, on Sunday 11th inst, we had difficulty in hetting him to Trive sufficiently fast over bad roads, for us to see any radiator movement. We were quite certain that his chafeur was ignorant as to the actual features that we were testing. If it is possible to satisfy Fairhurst until he returns to Paris, we suggest that the car should be dealt with then. We are sending out Depot sheets to cover this complaint of radiator movement and will see that Robinson of Berlin has the necessary information for him to deal with 16-MS, should there be no alternative.
