For the attention of Mr. Freeman.

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your letter of the 12th July.

We are sorry that you are unable to give us the percentage difference between these two tyres. It is of course going to be very difficult for us to run 17 laps to determine the tyre life, and even if we do this it is almost certain that these laps will not be covered at the same speeds as will be run during the race.

Unless these large tyres do run half the course without requiring to be changed, we find it difficult to understand why you should consider them to be the only reasonable tyres for the car under the conditions in question.

Naturally we do not expect you to guarantee that they will last 17 laps of the Ulster course, but concluded that you must have some Laboratory figures of comparative rates of wear.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
