YNG-HR1 LOVell 81282 Copy Air Publication 1464 Vol. II A.M.O. E.950 - Fuel 77 Octane Standard - Specification D.T.D. 224 Issued. 1. Specification D.T.D. 224/77 Octane Standard Fuel for Aero-engines - has been prepared and distributed. 2. This specification supersedes D.T.D.134, which has for some years represented the standard fuel of the R.A.F and differs therefrom in the following chief respects:- (i) The quality of the fuel is judged by its "octane number", a measure of its anti-detonation value, determined as far as possible under conditions representative of modern service aero-engines. (ii) The anti-detonation quality has been increased, so far as is practicable, without recourse to tetra ethyl lead. 3. The new fuel is suitable for all existing types of service engine. It is not proposed in general to increase the rating of existing type Service engines to take advantage of the higher anti-knock value of the fuel, except in certain cases, for take off purposes, which will be specifically announced when the appropriate tests have been completed to permit of a slightly increased boost for supercharged engines. .................. | ||
