VNG Lq XOVcel (crossed out) Copy 81282 Air Publication 1464 Volume 11 A.M.O. E.951 - Fuel, 87 Octane Standard - Specification D.T.D. 230 Issued. 1. Specification D.T.D. 230 - 87 Octane Standard Fuel for Aero-engines - has been prepared and distributed. 2. This specification not only provides a more effective method of testing and accepting fuel than that on which supplies to the R.A.F under the now superseded D.T.D.134 specification was based, but secures a fuel of appreciably higher anti-knock value by the admission of tetra ethyl lead. 3. The employment of "tetra ethyl lead" requires special development, particularly of exhaust valves and seats to secure a full overhaul life of the present service order, and spirit to this new specification cannot therefore normally be used in existing service engines. 4. New types of engine and new marks of existing service types at present in the experimental and early development stage are being adapted to take advantage of this fuel, which offers appreciable scope for increased power output and over-all engine efficiency. 5. Appropriate supply arrangements for this fuel will be made as and when the engines requiring it become available. 6. Notices recording the introduction of such engines into service use will state the type of fuel to be employed i.e. D.T.D. 230 or D.T.D. 224 which is dealt with in A.M.O. E.950/1933. ***************** | ||
