D/BF/LH{Mr Haworth}4/B31.10.22. We have received from the above 1 - 2 volt Cell ex. an Exide Battery, damaged and alleged to be faulty. This cell is from an old type battery, no ebonite separators are fitted and brass washers are fitted under the terminals. According to the Shipping Office this cell was damaged in transit. The casing is scrap and 2 of the positive plates are broken and are also scrap. These will require replacing and we wish the Chloride Co., to quote a separate charge for these replacements. The alleged faulty condition of this cell is now hard to determine. The paste is loose on the positive plates, but the plates are not excessively buckled. It is possible that an accumulation of loose paste in the base of the cell case may have caused a short circuit, but we are not in a position to prove this, owing to the broken case. We will leave the question of charge for replacing the elements, in the hands of EFC. when the Chloride Co's., representative next visits our Department.
