FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} (2)27 1/3 J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 4. GEARBOX. ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M23.7.31. 85310. x7310. Herewith we send N. scheme 3317. shewing modifications to the flange piece of the universal joint to adapt them to the rear axle as well as the gearbox. It will be seen that we have slightly re-arranged them as compared with N. scheme 3314. It is suggested that the sheet metal baffle which has hitherto been fitted to both P. 2. and 20/25 cars may not be actually necessary and we should like it tried without as shewn here in order to save cost. We suggest that it should be tested by being played on with a hose for an appreciable time. It appears to have been omitted on the 20/25 hypoid axle judging from G53920. With reference to the modification to the universal joint pieces we think it will be agreed that it represents such a saving in cost as to be worth while doing at once. With further reference to N. scheme 3314. we think it might be an advantage for you to have packing between the sheet metal cross member and the brackets attaching to the frame for the purposes of fore and aft adjustment. If so would Derby provide this. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
