To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems} Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} STICKING PISTON ON THE S.U. BENTLEY CARBURETTERS OWING TO BADLY MADE POT. We returned one of the faulty carburetter suction pot and piston to the S.U. Company and showed it to Mr.Skinner personally. He agreed with us as to the cause of the sticking, namely the screw-on cap being bored out of centre with the spindle. This he said was bored out separately and not on the same setting as they use for boring the spindle guide, but this was the first case of the kind they had seen and it was not possible on their standard job as the guide was longer and the spindle does not go up inside the cap. He agreed to modify their method of manufacture and in the mean-time inspect all carburetters more carefully for this fault. I had not previously sent you a report about this as I found you had already returned another sample which Mr. Harris, their Works Manager, had and presumed he would have answered your letter and explained what they proposed to do.
