Exhaust Valves
Chassis and Aero Engine.

Mr Royce this afternoon on the telephone informed me that he wanted to bring in the new R.{Sir Henry Royce} Crown Steel which is doing so well on R.{Sir Henry Royce} engine for all chassis and aero engines.

He prefers to use a high conductor for Valve Guide Phos. Bronze or some similar. alloy good for heat conductivity and also with high wearing qualities. He wishes us to use up present valves and valve material for inlet valves but get the new type material into service for all engines, aero and chassis immediately.

We should therefore get standardization sheets moving without delay and with Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s consent I propose to at once instruct Order Office to obtain the suitable sizes of billet to cover the aero and chassis engine requirements.
