-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}10/AP.18.1.37. W.1.Unit continued Light running, timing gears quietened on bed and power curve, all leaks and complaints to be cured on the bed. Oil pressures to be checked over, design figures of 30 lbs/sq.in. main and 4 lbs/sq.in. rocker should be obtained when the oil inlet temp. is at approx. 90°C. and at 3750-4000 RPM. Note when running with the actual engine oil system (no test bed tackle) if any troubles with Helical pump. When pressure have been set check speeds at which oil feed the rockers, timing gears and main pressures these with the oil hot. BENTLEY O.H.C. No.23.Unit Following passing off of W.1. the bed to be converted for fitting O.H.C. engine. This to be done in a manner easiest for interchanging of Bentley and Wraith engines. The gears to be quietened on the bed and the engine progressed as far as possible with a view to fitting in a chassis. The cast exhaust manifold is ready and if ready the reduced bore induction manifold and std. Bentley carbs. should be tried out. 25/30. C.15. Tests on switching off engine and trying to cure running backwards. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} is clearing the water passages as per TT. development for trial. Cold induction system to be tried (insulated hot spot) Above to be tried in conjunction with water flow tests with oil cooler in circuit as per previous memo. This is urgent for design.
